Faith, Business, and Ministry: Witnessing for Christ in Everyday LifeBy a fellow Seventh-day Adventist

Life is full of callings. Some of us preach from a pulpit, some teach children, some serve with their hands, and others build businesses that support homes and communities. No matter our assignment, we share the same mission: to reflect the character of Christ everywhere we go. For Seventh-day Adventists, business is not just about earning a living—it is an opportunity for ministry.

Many Christians sometimes struggle with the idea that faith and business can mix. We tend to separate “spiritual work” from “secular work,” thinking ministry only happens at church. But Scripture shows us that ministry happens wherever God places us. Jesus called fishermen, farmers, tentmakers, physicians, and businesspeople. They served Him through their craft and through their conversation. The work of the hands became a testimony of the heart.

That’s what business really is for a believer—an extension of witness.

When we show honesty, excellence, and compassion in our daily trade, we quietly preach a sermon stronger than many words. Customers notice when they are treated with fairness. Employees notice when they are honored and not exploited. Community members notice when a business operates with integrity rather than cutting corners. These choices turn ordinary workplaces into sacred spaces.

Being an Adventist business owner or worker means we carry the values of the kingdom into every interaction. Our faith does not stay hidden under a basket during the week. It shines through kindness, respect, and responsibility. It shows up in how we speak, how we price, how we keep our word, and how we handle conflict. Sometimes our witness is simple—just offering prayer to a customer in crisis or sharing encouraging words in a tough moment. Other times, our witness may be silent, simply reflected in the trustworthy way we conduct our work.

Ministry is not bound by a stage, a sermon, or a microphone. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” That means drafting a contract to God’s glory. Cooking a meal to God’s glory. Designing a website, repairing a car, selling products, managing employees, leading meetings—all to the glory of God.

We also remember Sabbath. While others see it as a day of lost business, we recognize it as a gift of rest and worship. Each Sabbath keeps us grounded, reminds us who we belong to, and points us back to the Creator. It’s a weekly testimony that our success comes from God, not from endless hustle.

As Adventists, we can—and should—use our businesses to uplift others. Whether supporting church programs, mentoring youth, donating to missions, or helping people in practical ways, our businesses become channels of blessing. Through business, we meet people who may never step into a church. But through us, they may meet Christ.

So wherever God has placed you, step into your calling with confidence. Your work is a ministry. Your business is a platform. Your life is a testimony.

Let your light shine—not only on Sabbath, but every day—so that through your example, others may come to know the love of Jesus.
